Commonly asked questions about Reiki:

What is Reiki?
Reiki is the Japanese art of healing. It is defined as universal life force energy.

Who can perform Reiki?
Anyone. We all have the ability to channel this healing energy. Some are naturally better at it, but everyone is a candidate.

Do I have to believe in Reiki to make it work?
You do not have to believe in Reiki to experience it. I have worked on several non-believers and they always feel either heat or vibration from my hands. To channel Reiki, it is far more affective if you do believe because your crown chakra (your head) must be open to receive the Reiki energy. Doubt contributes to closing this chakra, but the Reiki energy will plow through anyway.

Can I hurt anyone with Reiki?
No. Reiki is self- guiding, unconditional love. It knows what to do regardless of the source.

Is Reiki magic?
No. Reiki is nether an illusion, nor an occult ritualistic method of manipulating energy. Reiki is the God force energy of love and light.

Does Reiki ever stop working?
No. The healer may become out of practice, but the energy will always flow through them. Especially after they have received an attunement.

Does everyone have the same amount or quality of Reiki?
Some people are better channelers of the energy and some people are naturally more intuitive. Reiki is Reiki. It is not anyone’s energy to own or improve on. A Reiki master is more likely to channel energy better than a healer with Reiki level one ore two training.

What is a Reiki attunement?
An attunement is a procedure in where the master imbeds a series of symbols in the student’s chakras. The experience is both relaxing and empowering for the student. This ceremony increases the student’s energy permanently to a higher vibration.

Do I need an attunement to perform Reiki?
No. Everyone has the ability to channel. Some people do naturally all of the time. What is the first thing you do when you bump your leg? You put your hand on it. Healing is a natural state of being for many people. We simply must remember how.

Can Reiki be used with other healing techniques?
Absolutely, and I encourage it. Reiki works well with massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, psychotherapy, nursing, and any other field of healing or medicine.

What is a Reiki sharing?
A Reiki sharing is a gathering of people performing Reiki on each other. I strongly suggest either attending one or coming in for a massage/Reiki treatment to experience the energy. You do not need to know how to channel Reiki to attend a sharing.

What makes Universal Healing a better place to learn Reiki?
My class sizes are limited to 5 people and I teach apprentice-style. I have been teaching for almost 10 years and am very experienced as I perform Reiki daily on my clients, animals, plants, and child. I have created a manual for levels one and two making it easy for my students to reflect upon what they have learned. Each student will receive a certificate upon completion of each course. I am available via phone or e-mail for as long as my students need me to answer any questions or to simply share insights.
